The best time to visit the Philippines is December to May, the dry season. December to February is cooler and more comfortable. March to May is hot, sunny, and best for beaches. June to November is the rainy season, and July to October is peak typhoon season. You can still travel then, and it’s cheaper and less crowded, but you need a flexible plan.
Philippine Seasons at a Glance
PAGASA, the Philippine weather bureau, divides the year into two main seasons:
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Cool dry season | December – February | Coolest months (January averages about 25.5°C), low rain, cool northeast winds (Amihan) |
| Hot dry season | March – May | Hottest and sunniest (May averages about 28.3°C), calm seas, best beach weather |
| Rainy season | June – November | Southwest monsoon (Habagat) rains, humid; typhoon peak July – October |
The average yearly temperature is about 26.6°C. Baguio in the mountains of Northern Luzon is much cooler, at about 18.3°C.
Typhoon Season: What You Need to Know
About 20 tropical cyclones enter Philippine waters each year, and about 8 or 9 of them cross the country. The peak is July to October, when nearly 70% of typhoons form.
Typhoons affect the northern Philippines the most. Mindanao in the south is the least affected. If you travel from June to November:
- Get travel insurance that covers weather delays and cancellations.
- Leave one free day before your international flight home.
- Expect island-hopping trips to be cancelled when the Coast Guard stops boats in rough seas.
- Book with a local operator who can re-arrange your tour if the weather changes.

Best Time to Visit by Destination
The Philippines has more than 7,000 islands, so the weather is not the same everywhere.
- Manila and Tagaytay: Clear dry and wet seasons. Best from December to April. Tagaytay is cooler because it is higher up.
- Boracay: Best from November to May, when White Beach is calm. From June to October, the southwest winds can bring waves to White Beach, but the island stays open.
- Palawan (El Nido, Coron, Puerto Princesa): Best from November to May for island-hopping and calm seas. Boat tours can be cancelled in bad weather during the rainy season.
- Cebu and Bohol: Seasons are less pronounced here, and it is relatively dry from November to April. A good choice if you can only travel in the shoulder months.
- Banaue, Sagada, and Vigan (Northern Luzon): Best from December to April. Mountain roads can be affected by landslides during heavy rain.
- Mindanao: Rain is spread more evenly through the year, and typhoons are less common here.
Best Time to Visit by Market
USA and Canada: December to April is a great winter escape. Book Christmas and New Year dates early, because this is also the busiest season for local travelers.
UK and Europe: January to April gives you warm, dry weather while it’s cold at home. February and March are usually less crowded than December.
Australia: Your summer holidays (December to January) fall in our cool dry season, which is great beach weather. Your winter (June to August) is our rainy season, so plan flexible itineraries.
South Korea: Winter break (December to February) is the most popular time, and the weather is at its best. For long weekends, remember Seollal in early February 2027 and Chuseok in mid-September 2027. September is rainy season, so pick Cebu or Bohol and keep a flexible plan.
